Before hiring High Wycombe landscaping experts to come in and help you create the garden of your dreams, it’s always a good idea to go and have a look at other plots to see if there are any ideas you can pinch for your own.

For some serious inspiration, make your way to Inverewe Garden just outside Poolewe in Wester Ross in Scotland, a garden, forest and conservation project that has just been named as UK Garden of the Year in the BBC Countryfile Magazine Awards 2017.

Property manager of National Trust for Scotland’s Inverewe Garden said: “We have an excellent and dedicated team at Inverewe who work hard to make the garden the brilliant visitor experience that it is. This wonderful accolade is testament to the team’s achievement in delivering a world class quality product.”

Other winners this year included Abernethy Forest in the Cairngorms, which won the nature reserve category, and the Scottish Beaver Trial which was named Wildlife Success of the Year after the successful reintroduction of the once-native species to Knapdale in Argyll.

If you want to visit other gardens before deciding on the style and design of yours, other great spots to go to include Sissinghurst Castle near Cranbrook in Kent. This was set up in 1930 by Vita Sackville-West and husband Harold Nicholson – one of the most iconic gardens in the UK.

And then there’s the Chelsea Physic Garden on Royal Hospital Road in London. This was initially founded as an apothecary’s garden back in 1673. You’ll find some very unusual plants here!
